The Deutsches Elektronen-Synchrotron DESY is proud to announce the “Ukraine Winter School 2023” dedicated to Physics Bachelor and Master students from Ukraine.
The school will give the opportunity to obtain first-hand research experience at an outstanding international laboratory. Selected students will be invited for a 6 weeks training period to DESY to experience research in one of its various fields of expertise: Accelerators; Astroparticle physics; Elementary particle physics; Photon science;
About DESY: DESY is one of Germany’s largest multidisciplinary research centers and a worldwide
known facility that provides a unique abundance of research expertise in the above mentioned
scientific fields.
DESY campus in Hamburg and Zeuthen (Germany) offers an outstandingly stimulating research and
training environment as it hosts the following state-of-the art facilities: the PETRA III storage ring, the
FLASH free-electron laser and the European XFEL X-ray laser. The research carried out at DESY is
extremely diverse. The scientists who work here are looking for the tiniest building blocks of matter
that make up our world, developing innovative high-tech materials and searching for new mechanisms
of action for future medications.
General Eligibility criteria :
Students need to be enrolled at a Ukrainian university and have completed at least 3 years of
university level studies (by Autumn 2022);
Students must not yet have obtained the master’s degree by the time of the school;
Students of any nationality enrolled at a Ukrainian university are invited to apply;
Good knowledge of English;
NB: selected candidates will be asked to have a document signed by their University as legal requirement to participate in the school. The document will be sent only to selected students.
Additional information
DESY will offer financial support to selected students:
a guest allowance;
free accommodation at DESY (Hostel);
at least partial reimbursement of travel costs;
